Scrolling on TikTok, I came across a reaction video. I didn’t think much of it, so I watched the whole thing. I had been a boyfriend and girlfriend together, and the boyfriend had sung the words “Cooking with Kya” once, and the girlfriend had immediately reacted by almost kicking him in his face. I had no idea what his singing meant, especially to trigger his girlfriend's strong reaction. This is the video if you want to see the reaction:
So, I did some digging for whoever cooking with Kya is. This young woman on TikTok (Her TikTok account is @cookingwithkya, if you want to check her out) makes cooking videos. At the start of each video, she shows her meal and sings “Cooking with kya” around 4 times, and shakes her behind before getting into how she made the meal in the video. That was how the very first video I saw on her account went. As I went on, I noticed that Kya had been adding some other comments at the start of her videos such as “Wake up and make your man breakfast before I do” and “I can steal your man with this meal”.

When I heard those comments, I felt a bit put off and felt like an attack on women and their cooking skills. It was like Kya was saying women need the cooking skills to get and keep a man and like “If you can’t, someone else can!” So I can see how some women might not be Kya’s biggest fan. And then I got to see the hate videos women and young girls were making. Now look, I don’t want to sit here and say that the things these women are saying online are right because some of the comments made were rude. But others seem to enjoy watching and ask for a plate.
So why the divide? The best I can say is, I think it’s the approach Kya takes in these videos for most women. With the comments of telling women they should be cooking for their man and being able to steal a man because of her cooking. My thing is, why should women be the designated cook for their partner? Anyone can cook, so why not tell men who watch your videos to cook for their girlfriends? If she was telling EVERYONE to get up and cook, the divide in opinions about her wouldn’t be there. People would love to get new recipes to try out for themselves, them and their partners, or for family/friends.
But back to the “cook for you man or I will” thing. It feels like Kya is deliberately trying to get men to say “Cookingwithkya said she’d cook for me so why can’t you?” And the funny thing is, MEN ARE DOING IT. Take a look:
I don’t think Kya needs all the hate comments. She knows what she’s saying and if she doesn’t want to change up her content, those who don’t enjoy it should stop giving her the attention. And if she does change it up and is kinder to her female audience, great. But don’t feed into her if you don’t like what she’s saying, just find other content creators who are showing recipes.
I agree 100%! I like the recipes she makes but her approach is not that good. Even if I did have a man I wouldn’t be afraid of her stealing my man bc I know damn well my man would and shouldn’t leave me for no damn $5 plate!🤣
